Anthony Bourdain, full name Anthony Michael Bourdain, is a professional chef, television personality and book author. He gained nationwide recognition in 2000, when his best-seller Kitchen Confidential: Adventures in the Culinary Underbelly reached the stores. The book told Anthony’s personal career story and offered “behind the scenes” glimpse at the kitchens of famous American restaurants. Bourdain is also recognized for hosting cultural adventure and culinary programs on the Travel Channel: The Layover and Anthony Bourdain: No Reservations. Anthony was born in New York, in a family of Pierre and Gladys Bourdain. His paternal ancestors emigrated to America from France, after the continent was destroyed by the World War I. While living in Leonia, New Jersey , Anthony attended Dwight-Englewood School and later graduated from Englewood School for Boys. Bourdain continued his studies in Vassar College, but got kicked out before earning a degree.
Following this promotion Bourdain decided to share his story with fellow Americans and published Kitchen Confidential: Adventures in the Culinary Underbelly. The commercial success of this witty and entertaining publication encouraged Anthony to write more books. A Cook’s Tour, his second New York Times bestseller, was released in 2001. It was followed by The Nasty Bits , Anthony Bourdain’s Les Halles Cookbook: Bone in the Throat, Gone Bamboo, Typhoid Mary: An Urban Historical, No Reservations: Around the World on an Empty Stomach and most recently- Medium Raw: A Bloody Valentine to the World of Food and the People Who Cook.
